Huw Edwards expelled from Eisteddfod

NATIONAL Eisteddfod board members have voted unanimously to expel disgraced BBC presenter Huw Edwards from the organisation.

He has also been expelled from the Eisteddfod’s Gorsedd, consisting of people who have made a distinguished contribution to Welsh language and culture.

Edwards pleaded guilty in July to three counts of making indecent images of children. The offences are alleged to relate to 37 images that were shared on a WhatsApp chat, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The BBC has also announced that it is seeking £200,000 from Edwards, to repay money from the salary he earned after being arrested last November.

The ex-presenter “behaved in bad faith” in continuing to take his salary despite knowing what he had done, said BBC chair Samir Shah in a letter to staff.

Edwards resigned from the BBC this April after being suspended in July last year, but continued to earn his salary for five months after his arrest.
