Greens call for worker-led Grangemouth transition ahead of march
Scottish Green MSP Gillian Mackay, June 16, 2023

THE Greens called for a worker-led transition for Scotland’s only oil refinery ahead of a major march to save Grangemouth today.

The Keep Grangemouth Working campaign is staging a march in support of the 500 Petroineos refinery workers and the thousands more dependent upon it in the supply chain.

Scottish Green MSP for Central Scotland Gillian Mackay said: “I grew up only 200 yards from the refinery, and know how important it is for the local economy and jobs.

“Everyone in the town knows somebody who is employed directly or indirectly by these sites.

“The workers at Grangemouth are some of the most talented and skilled anywhere in Scotland, they must be at the heart of shaping what happens next.

“The just transition can’t be a slogan, it has to provide real jobs and opportunities, and Grangemouth can and must be a blueprint of that collaborative and managed transition in action.”

Unite is fighting to extend the life of the refinery and secure jobs in new low-carbon projects at the plant.
