GMB has thrown its weight behind tomorrow’s March for Clean Water in London in protest against the pollution of Britain’s rivers, lakes and seas.

The union represents around 15,000 workers from the water industry.

Thames general branch secretary Cliff Roney will address the march’s rally being organised by environmental charity River Action in Parliament Square.

River Action founder Charles Watson said: “We are honoured to be joined by members of the GMB on the March for Clean Water, on what promises on Sunday to be a beautiful sunny day.

“Nobody has better insight of reckless manner in which our failing water industry has been financially mismanaged and disastrously regulated than the people who work within it.”

GMB national secretary Andy Prendergast said: “Water privatisation has been a disaster for everyone; sewage dumped in our beautiful waterways, billions of gallons lost to leaks every day and zero investment.

“Meanwhile fat cat directors and shareholders trouser millions of pounds.”
