Fortune always hiding for Hammers at Anfield
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker saves a penalty from West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen

LIVERPOOL followed up their impressive 1-0 victory against Manchester City with a repeat scoreline at Anfield against West Ham United, but David Moyes’s visitors could rue their bad luck.

The Hammers will have been disappointed not to get at least a point as Jarrod Bowen saw a penalty kick saved by Alisson, who also saved impressively late on from Tomas Soucek.

Alisson's was arguably a Man of the Match performance, while at the other end the Reds' new signing Darwin Nunez was a big threat. It was he who netted the winning goal.

Moyes believed Declan Rice was the best player on the night, though, and had high praise for the English midfielder after the game.

“He was the best player on the pitch by a mile tonight. Top player,” he said.

“He could play for any club, he’s that good. He was back to his best tonight with long periods of fantastic play, how he dominated and how he took the ball and drove past people."

Liverpool took the lead just as the West Ham fans were launching into a rendition of God Save The King, with Nunez silencing the away end who had been taunting him until that point.

His header came from Kostas Tsimikas's well-placed cross. It was a difficult chance but was perfectly executed.

The Uruguayan now has three goals and one assist in four Premier League starts and looks to be settling well at Anfield.

Liverpool missed him when he was substituted in the second half, and the Hammers came back into the game.

They were unlucky not to take anything from it when Soucek’s shot was blocked by a combination of James Milner and Alisson.

“I’m disappointed in the end that we didn't come away with something," added Moyes.
