A FIFTH strike looms at the West End Quay luxury flats in London as cleaners and concierges today began reballoting over a “broken pay deal,” their union, United Voices of the World union (UVW) said.
A 10-day strike in September marked the fourth walkout since the dispute began in September 2024.
UVW said that management, having initially agreed to an Acas-facilitated pay deal, attempted to tie a 2025 pay rise to the condition that workers give up their hard-won collective bargaining rights.
The union says West End Quays management’s new contract offer would strip them of basic legal protections, including the right to collectively bargain, make unilateral changes to hours and pay and impose mandatory overtime without consent.
It would also involve searches of workers and the banning of prayer by refusing additional breaks, said UVW.
General secretary Petros Elia hit out at “a culture of authoritarianism and abuse.”
A spokesperson for West End Quay RTM Company said: "We have consistently engaged in good faith to reach a fair agreement on pay and conditions for our team. We have offered a deal that delivers a significant pay rise, improved employee benefits and clearly defined roles. We remain committed to constructive dialogue to resolve this matter responsibly."
