FBU Scotland to deliver fire engine to Palestine

FBU Scotland will deliver yet another fire engine to their comrades in Palestine later this year, the union announced today.

The firefighters’ union has worked alongside the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service to secure the donation of a surplus fire engine — complete with all modern kit — the third since 2011.

The union’s actions builds on a long history of support for their comrades at the Palestinian Fire & Rescue Service, from exchange visits and training to the supply of the latest firefighting and lifesaving equipment.

Former firefighter and FBU official Jim Malone, who co-ordinates the union’s work on Palestine, said: “The situation in Gaza is appalling.

“The people are being subjected to unimaginable horrors on a daily basis.

“Our comrades in the Palestinian Fire & Rescue Service battle every hour to save lives as the Israeli government continues its collective punishment of the civilian population.

“While carrying out their duties, they have come under sustained attacks from Israeli forces.

“We hope that the delivery of this fire appliance later this year will help protect the lives of innocent men, women and children — but our greatest hope is for a permanent peace and justice for the people of Palestine.”
