Chelsea ‘will not underestimate’ WSL newcomers Crystal Palace

CHELSEA boss Sonia Bompastor has stressed she will not be taking anything for granted when the Women’s Super League champions face promoted Crystal Palace tomorrow.

The Blues opened their hunt for a sixth successive WSL title with a 1-0 home win over Aston Villa last week, their first competitive fixture since Bompastor succeeded Emma Hayes.

Their next opponents, meanwhile, began what is their debut WSL campaign with a 4-0 defeat at Tottenham.

Bompastor told a press conference ahead of the contest at Selhurst Park that Palace’s result had been “severe and didn’t really reflect the game,” and she said: “We need to respect everyone, every team.

“Especially because they are going to play their first game at home, playing the holders, so I think for them that’s a special motivation.

“And I think a lot of teams play differently when they play Chelsea. I expect them to be at their best level, to play their best game, and we have to be prepared for that.

“I never, in all my career, take games for granted. We always want to show the best of our team.

“From last week we identified some points we can improve, and I hope we are going to see them this week in our performance.”
