BRITAIN’S favourite snacks Hula-hoops, Pom-Bears and Disco crisps could be in short supply as workers began voting on strike action today, the GMB union warned.
KP Snacks workers at the company’s site in Billingham, Co Durham, recently rejected a pay rise of just 77 pence per hour, calling instead for a “fair increase.”
The ballot closes on August 12 and any industrial action that may be voted on is likely to take place in September.
GMB organiser Fiona Hill said: “GMB members at KP Crisps want a decent living wage and are asking for a fair increase of one pound an hour.
“We urge KP to avoid denying the nation some of its favourite snacks by getting back to the negotiating table and paying their workers properly.”
A KP Snacks spokesperson said: “We are disappointed that we find ourselves in this position, considering an above inflation offer, and remain in ongoing discussions with our colleagues and union representatives.
"We have robust processes in place across our supply chain and should we end up in the unfortunate position of strike action taking place we are confident there will be no disruption to our customers.”
The company previously clashed with the union over closures at a plant in Durham in 2014.
