STOP the War Scotland rallied activists and trade unionists to picket a visit by Sir Keir Starmer to Glasgow tomorrow.
The Labour leader was attending the Scottish Labour Party’s Gala Fundraising Dinner at Crowne Plaza Hotel on the Clyde, just a mile from the BAE shipyard in Govan, which was brought to a standstill this morning by Workers for Palestine.
Peace campaigners and Palestinian solidarity activists were infuriated when Sir Keir offered his backing to the actions of the Israeli military response to the Hamas offensive on October 7.
Sir Keir went on to whip MPs to vote against a Commons motion calling for an immediate ceasefire, but Stop the War Scotland was keen to support the different approach north of the border.
In a statement, Stop the War Scotland said:
“Stop the war Scotland welcomes Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar’s support for a ceasefire and invites all Labour Party supporters and members to demand the UK Labour leader and Labour Party support the call for for an immediate ceasefire, an end to Israeli apartheid and for a free Palestine.”
