Anti-Islamophobia protesters to rally outside Tory HQ

ANTI-RACISM protesters are expected to rally outside the Conservative Party headquarters this evening, denouncing racism and Islamophobia “emanating from the centre of the government.”

Stand Up To Racism (SUTR), the Muslim Association of Britain, The Cordoba Foundation and the Jewish Socialists Group are among those that joined calls to protest.

The rally comes in the wake of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s refusal to acknowledge Islamophobia within his party, despite now-suspended MP Lee Anderson saying that the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan was controlled by “Islamists.”

SUTC has demanded that the whip be withdrawn from former home secretary Suella Braverman and ex-PM Liz Truss.

Ms Braverman wrote that “Islamists” are “in charge now” in an article in the Daily Telegraph, while Ms Truss has claimed “a radical Islamic party” could win the Rochdale by-election.

SUTR co-convener Sabby Dhalu said that Tory politicians are “busy pouring fuel onto the fire” of Islamophobia, “with neither acknowledgement nor condemnation from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak nor any senior Tory politician on our screens and airwaves this week.”

“As night follows day, hatred from politicians leads to hatred on the streets,” she warned.
