Alba Party calls in police over financial 'irregularities'
Police Scotland officers

THE Alba party have called in the police to investigate “irregularities” in party finances.

Police Scotland said that the issue had been reported to them by the party back in May 26, exactly two months after Kenny MacAskill won the leadership of Alba.

His defeated opponent, Ash Regan, left to sit as an independent MSP last month.

The force confirmed that “the investigation into this matter is ongoing.”

Mr MacAskill said: “Matters are being investigated by authorities.

“The Alba Party has made reports to the authorities and investigations are being carried out.

“Things have come to light that cause us great concern, and we have reported them to the authorities.”

A spokesperson for the party added: “A review of Alba Party HQ operations and finances was instigated by Alex Salmond while he was alive as he had concerns with the management of the party.

“This review was undertaken with the full support of the Alba Party NEC.

“Subsequently a number of internal financial and administrative irregularities have come to light.”
