Aid workers halt healthcare provision after a fresh outbreak of gunfire in Haiti's capital

THERE was a fresh outbreak of gunfire on Tuesday in Port-au-Prince, forcing aid workers to halt urgently needed care for thousands of Haitians.

Weeks of gang violence has forced 18 hospitals to stop working and caused a shortage of medical supplies as Haiti’s biggest seaport and main international airport remain closed.

The warning of the worsening situation in Haiti came from the Alliance for International Medical Action (Alima), a Senegal-based humanitarian organisation.
