Activists remanded in custody after spraying private jets with orange paint

TWO Just Stop Oil activists have been remanded in custody after spraying private jets with orange paint at Stansted airport last week.

The action group is demanding that the next goverment commit to work on a plan to end the extraction and burning of fossil fuels by 2030.

Jennifer Kowalski and Cole Macdonald pleaded not guilty to causing criminal damage and interfering with national infrastructure before Chelmsford magistrates on Saturday.

Prosecutors say the cost of cleaning up the paint was £52,000.

The pair are also charged with aggravated trespass but were not asked to enter pleas for that.

They intended to target Taylor Swift’s plane, but Essex police said the globe-trotting pop star’s private jet was not at the airport at the time of the action.

The pair were denied bail and are due to appear for a plea hearing on July 22.

According to European environmental advocacy group Transport & Environment, private jet users are responsible for up to 14 times more polluting per passenger than commercial flights.
