Abbott to ‘run and win as Labour’s candidate’
Diane Abbott attends a protest by Stand Up to Racism and the Afghan Human Rights Foundation outside the Home Office in Westminster, central London, August 23, 2021

DIANE ABBOTT says she intends to “run and win as Labour’s candidate” for Hackney North & Stoke Newington at the general election.

The veteran MP was responding to reports that she and other left-wingers had been offered peerages to quit.

A number of leftwingers claim they have been told they would be elevated to the Lords if they gave up their seats for allies of Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, The Sunday Times reported.

Posting on X, Ms Abbott said: “I have never been offered a seat in the Lords, and would not accept one if offered.

“I am the adopted Labour candidate for Hackney North & Stoke Newington. I intend to run and to win as Labour’s candidate.”
