DR CONGO: Ambassador to the US Francois Balumuene has warned of “chaos” after Washington predicted destabilisation if President Joseph Kabila seeks re-election.

US State Department Great Lakes region envoy Thomas Perriello said this week that countries that have abolished presidential term limits “are five times more likely to face violence and instability.”

Mr Balumene replied that “the opposition and certain foreign backers” aim to oust Mr Kabila.
