TOP police representative Mukund Krishna felt the long arm of the law today after he was arrested on suspicion of corruption.

Mr Krishna, chief executive of the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW), was arrested along with two other national leaders of the federation, by City of London police probing fraud by abuse of position.

Police have been investigating allegations of financial offences under the Fraud Act 2006 at the federation, which represents 130,000 police officers.

Detective Superintendent James Hackett of the City of London police domestic corruption unit, said: “A 46-year-old man from Surrey, a 51-year-old man from Wales and a 55-year-old man from Bristol were all arrested on suspicion of fraud by abuse of position.

“This is a complex and active investigation in which we are pursuing all lines of enquiry, and I would ask that anyone with further information related to our enquiries contact us via our major incident public portal.”

A spokesperson for the federation said: “We are aware that three individuals connected to the Police Federation have been arrested as part of an ongoing police investigation.

“This is a live matter and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage. The organisation is co-operating fully with the relevant authorities.”

Mr Krishna, a former management consultant, was appointed the PFEW’s first chief executive in 2024 and is reported to have earned over £700,000 a year since, which even leading Tories have regarded as excessive.

The other two men arrested are understood to be members of the federation’s national board.

The federation claims that he has saved it tens of millions of pounds in liabilities, to justify his income.

The federation is bound by no-strike legislation, but seeks to represent rank-and-file police officers. It frequently defends police charged with abuses and lobbies for hard-line law-and-order policies.
