Palestinian women who set up peace camp overwhelmed by public support

TWO Palestinian women who have set up a peace camp in Sheffield have been overwhelmed by public support and solidarity.

Lena Mussa and Sahar Awadallah set up the Sheffield to Palestine Justice Now Camp outside the city’s town hall last Friday to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

They are also calling on the city council to declare Sheffield an “Israeli apartheid-free zone” and for criminal charges to be brought against British citizens who join the Israeli Defence Forces, committing genocide in Gaza.

The camp will continue until Friday, and on Saturday Ms Mussa will begin a hunger strike.

Supporters are supplying warm food, hot drinks and equipment to make the two more comfortable as temperatures plummet.

Ms Mussa said: “I am doing this for Gaza, in solidarity with the people of Gaza, and in the face of UK government complicity and lack of action by local council against the genocide happening to Palestinian people.

“It cannot be right to be silent when babies are being slaughtered.”

Ms Awadallah said: “Gaza will rise again. It is like a phoenix.”

They are being supported by Sheffield Palestine Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid.
