WOMEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Super League South champions the London Broncos have been drawn against holders St Helens, Warrington and Bradford in group 3 for this year’s Challenge Cup.
Last year’s runners-up Leeds are in Group 4 with Hull KR, Leigh and Huddersfield while Grand Final champions York will battle it out with Sheffield, Castleford and Featherstone.
The Cardiff Demons are up against Salford, Barrow and Wigan in Group 2.
NETBALL: Wales take a 1-0 advantage into the second leg of their three-match series with Uganda in Cardiff on Friday night after leading from the start to claim a convincing 57-45 victory on Wednesday.
The Ugandans had thumped the Welsh 73-56 when they met in last August’s World Cup, where they finished fifth, and are currently ranked the ninth-best team in the world, two places above Wales.
MEN’S RUGBY UNION: European Champions Cup action resumes on Friday evening with the English Premiership’s top team Northampton taking on Bayonne at Franklin’s Gardens.
Northampton won both of their opening group games while Bayonne drew in Munster and lost by a point at home to Glasgow.
Last year’s runners-up Leinster play Stade Francais on Saturday and champions La Rochelle are not in action until Sunday when they host Leicester.
ICE HOCKEY: Belfast Giants have re-signed their ex-captain David Goodwin from Spanish club CH Jaca.
Goodwin led the Giants to the treble last season and goes straight into the squad for this evening’s first leg of their home double-header with the Nottingham Panthers.
The Giants are currently third in the Elite League, 14 points behind table-topping Sheffield, and were knocked out of the Challenge Cup in the quarter finals.
