Russian bombardment kills 5 in Kiev

AT LEAST five people were killed in Kiev today in overnight Russian drone and missile strikes.

Russian authorities said the strikes targeted Ukraine’s “military-industrial and energy facilities” while Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said they hit residential flats.

The Ukrainian town of Pokrovsk, a key road and rail hub, could soon fall to Russian soldiers who have fought their way in, aided by a new Russian military unit — Rubikon — that specialises in hunting down Ukrainian drone operators, whose effective piloting of killer drones has made infantry advances dangerous and costly for Russia.

Ukrainian drone attacks targeted Russian energy infrastructure too, with strikes hitting an oil refinery in Saratov on the Volga and forcing a suspension of oil deliveries to the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.

In Budapest, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that he was still making preparations for “a major peace summit” that would bring together US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
