Post Office scandal victim makes Brit Awards call for compensation

A HORIZON IT victim used the Brit awards to call for compensation to be sped up for those wrongfully prosecuted in the scandal.

Former subpostmistress Jo Hamilton addressed the crowd at the O2 arena as she presented the Song of the Year award alongside actor Monica Dolan, who played the mum-of-two in the Mr Bates vs The Post Office ITV series.

Ms Hamilton, 66, pleaded guilty to false accounting to avoid going to jail in 2006 after being falsely accused of stealing £36,000 from Hampshire’s South Warnborough post office branch.

She was left financially ruined before her conviction was overturned in 2021 after it emerged she was among more than 700 subpostmasters prosecuted because of a faulty accounting system.

She said: “I want to thank everyone in the country for the love and the support they have given the postmasters.

“Please can you keep on supporting us because, despite what the government says, they’re not paying the postmasters.”
