Corbyn raises urgent question on Cuba
Jeremy Corbyn takes part in a Palestine Coalition march in central London, January 31, 2026

YOUR PARTY leader Jeremy Corbyn called for more aid for Cuba in an urgent question in Commons this week amid a “catastrophic” situation.

Mr Corbyn highlighted a recent visit to the Caribbean island nation, where a convoy delivered medial aid, saying: “It’s forever sealed in my memory, the sadness in the director’s eyes as he was trying to deal with the catastrophic situation of loss of power and loss of medicines when he’s dealing with people who are potentially terminally ill.”

The former Labour leader said that the blockade of fuel by the US means costs are “unobtainable” for most people, meaning that “traffic simply doesn’t flow, bus services don’t run, very few taxis run, [and] refuse collection is impossible.”

“It also means… that there are power cut-offs of up to 20 hours per day, so the health risks are enormous, the education risks are enormous, and Cuba is really up against it,” he said.

“None of this is necessary.”

His call for more aid, including oil was backed by other MPs, including the all-party parliamentary group on Cuba chairman, Chris Elmore.
