Conservative MP faces backlash for blaming Tory failures on ‘crap parents’

TORY MP James Daly faced a backlash today after blaming the struggles of children in his constituency on “crap parents.”

Labour’s Jon Trickett hit back at Mr Daly and his party, arguing that “crap” should instead “be applied to their whole term in office.”

Mr Daly, who represents Bury North, made the comments to the i newspaper, while touting the red wall-focused New Conservatives group, of which he is a member.

“I think New Conservatives represent very much working-class conservatism,” Mr Daly said.

“We’re not a strange right-wing sect. It’s just people who want to give people the best chance to succeed and thrive in life.

“When you think about the family, it’s about stability.

“Most of the kids who struggle in Bury are the products of crap parents and so what do we do to try to address that issue?”

James Frith, Labour’s prospective candidate in Bury North, condemned the remarks and pointed at the impact that Tory policies have had in failing children.

“Rather than insulting the parenting skills of people in Bury, he should look closer to home,” he said.

“Over the last 13 years, the Conservatives have failed to grow our economy, protect our public services or provide opportunities for young people in Bury and across the UK.”

Mr Trickett described the Tory MP’s comments as a “disgrace.”

“Tory backbenchers need to take a close look in the mirror before they start blaming poor people for their own poverty,” the MP told the Star.

“Their government has driven down wages, let profits rip, allowed the cost of living to accelerate away and cut our services.

“Far from families being ‘crap,’  that word ought to be applied to their whole term in office.

“And, judging by these comments, it appears that they also have no sense of shame.”
